Overtime

I just read a CNN article about Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook.  She leaves work every day at 5:30 so she can be home with her children by 6:00 PM to have dinner.  She does admit to reading her work email after her children are in bed.

When I was CEO I left work each day at 5:30 to get home in time to walk my dogs – Annie and Jake.  Also, I didn’t work weekends.

When I ask my “single greatest questions” – one of which is “What is your single greatest fear regarding your business or career?” many times the answer is “The fear of failure”. Clumping!

When you go to a meeting do you always sit by the same people, in the same place?  What about when you attend an outside meeting or training session?  Do you pal around with people you know?

It’s natural to stay with familiar people in unfamiliar places.  Its easy to stay in the habit of sitting with the same people in the same place.  I started to do that in grade school!

Of course you’ve heard “if you keep doing the same thing you’ll get the same result.”

Ryder Cup!

My husband and I had the opportunity to attend the Ryder Cup in Chicago over the weekend.  It was a volatile golf tournament for all involved – spectators and players.  For those not familiar with the Ryder Cup, here’s a brief background.

It is held every other year, between two twelve member teams of professional golfers, one from the United States the other from Europe.  The tournament is match, not stroke play, over three days.  The first two days the teams play foursomes in the morning and the afternoon, with sixteen points up for grabs.
