Are we there yet?
It seems that many articles and books are only about the future and don’t talk about right now. They discuss setting goals, what we’re going to do, and day dream about what life will be when we’ve got IT – whatever your IT is. It’s so easy to fall into the habit of living in what life “will be like” that it’s hard to see what life actually is.
I challenge you to take some time and write down what your life is like because YOU ARE THERE NOW – yes indeed. Here’s what I came up with:
1. Good Stuff – I’ve got my health, savings and great relationships. I wouldn’t change a thing – exactly where I want to be. You might be saying, I could lose weight, have more in savings, have additional friends. The cold hard facts are if those things were important to you, nothing would stop you from doing what you really want. What you have now is what is important to you, it is perfect.
2. I have enough – I have clothes to wear for all kinds of occasions, I have all the pots and pans I need to cook what I want, I have enough stuff to last a life time. Concentrating on what you do have and taking the time to appreciate it may dampen the search for more.
3. There is always enough time – You are spending each and every minute the way you choose to spend it. Time spent is up to you. If you don’t believe this – stop everything that you’re doing and think about adding back only those activities that you really want to do. If you’re overbooked, unless you have a rogue booking agent, you’re responsible.
4. Goals – I’ve been a goal setter most of my life. They motivate me to do more, be more, strive for more. I’ve been playing around with not having goals. I seem to get as much or more done without them. I don’t need them to set me on a clear direction or path. I’ve achieved all that I want to up to this point. There’s no one keeping score, even me.
5. Success – When I think about success it seems like a destination, in reality it’s a never ending road. Putting success in the context of the destination – right now, I’m a success. I’m living my life exactly the way I want to live it – that is my definition of success.
6. Milestones – With each step along my career and as I grow older, what I value and find important evolves. A job opportunity that seemed so important and vital, in hindsight was not the right opportunity. Hindsight provides perspective on what is actually a milestone and what might be a blimp on a life path.
I’m there! Right now is all there is. It’s perfect. Searching for the future, hoping for something different, doesn’t do a thing. Stay with your current choices or make different ones in the future – living consciously creates your present and your future.
Slow down, look around, what is your present? Are you there yet? You are. Leave your comments below.

I love the article ! especially point 3 – the rogue booking agent 🙂 or as Dr Judith Orloff says in her book emotional freedom – No is a sentence unto itself.
A warm thank you for your articles.
Suzanne –
