New Look?
Creating new opportunities and new ideas can be as easy as changing your physical appearance. Changing how you feel about yourself often translates into a new view of the world around you. The fresh perspective can conjure up new ideas and can reveal new opportunities. Following are some tips to help you get started. Try one tip at a time, changing everything all at once rarely works in the long term.
Tip 1: Start small – Look in the mirror. How long has it been since you’ve changed your hairstyle? Perhaps a different cut, color or even the way you comb your hair will give you a new look. Consider experimenting with new make-up for your new look. A great place to start is by looking through magazines – to see what appeals to you.
Tip 2: Wardrobe. Every time you step out of your home, you’re showing the world who you are. A big part of this is what you are wearing. Think about what you want to portray and what impression you want to leave on others. If being a top executive is in your sights, think about what a top executive would wear, not only for an important meeting, but also, what they would wear to the grocery store? Sloppy portrays a scattered mind, put together shows you are on top of your game. You never know who you might run into.
Tip 3: Body changes. Not happy with a certain body part? Consider starting an exercise program to make some changes. These changes won’t happen overnight. Start gradually – walking three or four times a week. I started working out with a trainer three times a week and the results have been great. A regular exercise routine can increase your energy and your self-confidence.
Tip 4: Nutrition. What we eat can have a profound effect on how we feel. Experiment eating differently – one week at a time. There are hundreds of diets of which I’m not a big fan. Diets are usually about what we can’t eat, rather than what we can. Instead of following a “diet” try one of the following for one week, vegetarian, vegan, glutton-free, increased fiber, fish/poultry only, etc. Pick one and see how it fits into your lifestyle. Use the internet or check out some books at the library to design your eating plan. Following a plan for one week is a lot easier than denying yourself your favorite foods for a life time. Reward yourself after the week with one of your favorites! A healthier diet can change the way you look, feel and behave.
Tip 5: Pamper yourself. Get a massage. Use a great lotion. Get a pedicure and/or a manicure. Remember your sunscreen. Take the time to give yourself a little extra care. “Your real influence is measured by your treatment of yourself.” – A. Bronson Alcott Everything you create professionally and personally flows from this.
Play around with these tips and see what happens. Experiment and have fun with your new look. What have you tried in the past that has worked for you? What hasn’t? Leave your comments below.
